  Information and History of Buildings

Village Gate Properties

277 North Goodman Street

Manufacturing Metal-Plating Warehouse. Probably built sometime in the 1940’s.

In 1990-91 when Gary bought the building it was totally empty and abandoned and was referred to as the “Beirut Hilton” or something of the sort.

1st loft apartment of Stern Properties. Maybe even the first loft apartment in Rochester.

302 North Goodman Street

Stecher-Traung offices

Original plan – tear down buildings and have as one big courtyard – “Peddlers Village” and a parking area.

In 1993 – Douglas McCord laid the Uni-Block down in the courtyard with serpentine design this created a courtyard restaurant feel.

Neat fact – there used to be railroad tracks running right alongside both 320 and 302. Recently when putting in new restaurant the “Gatehouse Café” one of workers found railroad tracks underneath existing concrete.

320 North Goodman Street

1900’s building – Rochester Drug Cooperative 1950’s

Before that it was a furniture manufacturer.

Bought around 2003.

176 Anderson Avenue

1987 – Rag Factory owned by the Frankle brothers. Manufactured commercial and industrial use rags

Neat fact – One of the A-units in 274 was rented by one of Frankle brothers until he died. And his wife rented the space for 10 years after his death in memory of him.

Courtyard Gate

The artist who created the gate in our courtyard is Marty Cellura with Metamorphosis Company and the project was done in 1986-1987.

Tunnels

Were originally used as the air conditioning systems. The hot air of second floor would be circulated down through tunnels and thus cooled.
